What to expect from therapy

“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.”

Ernest Hemingway

When You Come Into Therapy With Me

When you come into therapy with me, you don’t have to know exactly what to say. You don’t need a perfectly organized story or even know exactly what is wrong. You may know what brought you here, or simply feel that something in your life isn’t right anymore. We can begin wherever you are.

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for me to understand what you have been experiencing and what you would like to be different. You don’t have to tell me everything at once. Some experiences take time to put into words, and we can move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

As we work together, I won’t try to fit you into a particular box or follow a predetermined script. Your therapy is about you. Together, we will identify what matters to you and explore the approaches that may be most helpful. Our sessions may include conversation, reflection, practical strategies, mindfulness, grounding, or deeper exploration of thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns.

I believe trust takes time.

You don’t have to revisit painful experiences before you are ready, and you don’t have to have everything figured out before beginning. As your needs change, our work can change with you. When you come into therapy with me, you don’t have to perform, impress, or have the right answers. You can simply come as you are. You can begin where you are.
